Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

I’ve spent an entire week reading the book “Big Magic” through to the end. It made me think about perfectionism in a new way. This is definitely a beside table book for those who want to have a creative life and always think positively. This is also a wonderful gift you want to give to your friends or relatives who are pursuing creative jobs.

There are plenty of wise pieces of advice that I think I have to read over and over again. It’s highly recommended to all who yearn to be creative explorers.

I would like to share with you some excerpts that I think to be the best so that you can read them before you decide to buy this valuable book.

“I’m talking about living a life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear”

“A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life.”

“Scared of the ocean? Get in that ocean! Afraid of the snow? Time to go shovel snow”

“I believe that our planet is inhabited not only by animals and plants and bacteria and viruses, but also by ideas. Ideas are a disembodied, energetic life-form.”

“Everything you see and touch and do will remind you of the idea. The idea will wake you up in the middle of the night and distract you from your everyday routine.”

“If you’re alive, you’re a creative person.”

“You will never be able to create anything interesting out of your life if you don’t believe that you’re entitled to at least try.”

“Everything reminds us of something. But once you put your own expression and passion behind an idea, that idea becomes yours.”

“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart. The rest of it will take care of itself.”

“Do you want to study under the great teachers? Is that it? Well, you can find them anywhere. They live on the shelves of your library; they live on the walls of museums; they live in recordings made decades ago. Your teachers don’t even need to be alive to educate you masterfully.”

“When can you start pursuing your most creative and passionate life? You can start whenever you decide to start.”

“If you love and want something enough whatever it is then you don’t really mind eating the shit sandwich that comes with it.
If you truly love having babies, for instance, then you don’t care about the morning sickness.
If you truly want to be a minister, you don’t mind listening to other people’s problems.
If you truly love performing, you will accept the discomforts and inconveniences of living on the road.
If you truly want to see the world, you’ll risk getting pickpocketed on a train.
If you truly want to practice your figure skating, you’ll get up before dawn on cold mornings to go to the ice rink and skate.”

“Do what you love to do, and do it with both seriousness and lightness. At least then you will know that you have tried and that whatever the outcome you have traveled a noble path.”

“Whatever it is you are pursuing, whatever it is you are seeking, whatever it is you are creating, be careful not to quit too soon.” – Big Magic

I love to travel and have taken time to experience life in many countries.
